had plenty of good ingredients - an interesting system of magic and a reasonable plot for starters - but somehow I never really warmed to this book, neither the characters nor the writing.
Maybe because the pace seemed a bit too... plodding. Slow. Which is fine as such, but not what I'm currently looking for. Add to that the characters I never really felt like I got to know well enough, a lot of telling and less showing, some plot inconsistencies and some of the protagonist's habits that got irritating really fast (like talking to herself, out loud - yeah, really smart, especially when trying to sneak into a well-guarded building at night, yes?), and... meh.
Had promise, and it's not bad
by any means, but not for me, I think.
