The Arctic Incident - Eoin Colfer I was generally so underwhelmed by the first Artemis Fowl book that I hadn't planned to read more, but after lots of assurances from various quarters that it does get better, I figured I'll give it another go.

And I did like this one better than the first book. The whole fairy world is inventive and definitely the best part of this universe, and I still like Holly. Artemis himself was still pretty bland, but compared to the first book, he seemed a little less cardboard and a little more like someone with some sort of beginnings of a personality.

I can't say I was amazed by this one either, really, but overall... I think I'll be taking another dip into this series at some point, in the hopes that things will improve further.
